What is Moo Krata?

moo krata pork meat

Imagine all the meats and veggies you could have, now imagine them in both hotpot and bbq form

Like I’ve mentioned before, Moo Krata is a combination of Korean BBQ and Chinese Hot Pot. You have a center grill where you cook your proteins like shrimp, beef, chicken, and of course, the namesake pork. And you also have a moat filled with soup where you can cook your noodles, veggies, and fishballs. This versatility makes Moo Krata some of the most creative dining experiences you can have.

It is in my most humble opinion that, if you visit Thailand, you should atleast have one Moo Krata meal. It’s one of those things that you can only truly experience in Thailand.

Chuan Kin Moo Kata

My personal favorite place for Moo Krata is Chuan Kin Moo Kata in Bad Thad Thong street. Chuan Kin Moo Kata is a bit different from the other places in this list, that’s because it’s an All You Can Eat Buffet! For the price of around $10, you can just gorge yourself on an endless supplies of grilled meats and veggies.

And the ingredients are actually varied and good in quality compared to a lot of the Moo Krata places. Plus they even have ice cream, who doesn’t love ice cream?

You can check out my YouTube video on Chuan Kin Moo Kata above if you would like to see more info! Also why not subscribe to my channel while you’re at it? ;)

Everyday Moo Krata Riverside

Everyday Moo Krata Riverside

Grilled meats by the riverside? yes please!

Located along the banks of the Chao Phraya River, Moo Krata Riverside is all you ever wanted from a nice relaxing Moo Krata dinner in Bangkok. While personally I find that the taste is nothing special (that’s not a bad thing, all Moo Krata tastes great). The main highlight of Moo Krata Riverside is of course the gorgeous view of the Chao Phraya River!

Good Vibes, good service, great food, what’s not to love? Although I will say the price can be a little bit high because it’s kinda touristy, but I mean… Good atmosphere. Also note that Moo Krata Riverside is not a buffet.

Tang Jai Ping Mookata

Tang Jai Ping Mookata

Tang Jai Ping might be a small restaurant but inside is full of real good food

A little bit difficult to get to as it’s on the outskirts of Bangkok but Tang Jai Ping is THE place for a local Moo Krata experience.

Good amount of sauces to try from your classic spicy Thai seafood sauce to a more western style BBQ sauce. And if you’ve read my blog post on Moo Krata, then you’ll know that one of the key components of Moo Krata is a good sauce!

The staff are very welcoming and helpful, and the restaurant is very spacious and a perfect place for a family or large friend group. Tang Jai Ping is definitely a top tier authentic local Thai Moo Krata spot! The perfect 5/5 rating on Google Maps don’t lie!

Areeya Mu Kratha

Areeya Mu Kratha

Look at that whole plate of pork belly! Isn’t it just beautiful?

Areeya Mu Kratha is your example of a more casual and relaxing Moo Krata restaurant. The environment and seating is plentiful and spacious, located in an open air garden and well decorated. The quality of the Moo Krata ingredients is exceptional, especially the seafood! Though the price is relatively costly it’s to make up for the good atmosphere.

Also a great place to bring your friends and family for a perfect night out in Bangkok. Areeya Mu Kratha is not a buffet but every order does come with a plate packed full of vegetables.

Nak-La Moo Krata MBK

Nak-La Moo Krata MBK

When in doubt Nak-La Moo Krata is always there for your Moo Krata needs

Nak-La Moo Krata is like your chain restaurant style Moo Krata. The food is cheap and affordable while also being very delicious and high quality. At Nak-La Moo Krata, the meats are a la carte though the vegetables and sauces are buffet style, so you can eat as much as you like. Though I will warn you that if you are planning to dine at one of Nak-La’s restaurants you’ll want to go early because the queue can be insanely long.

Being a chain restaurant, there are a lot of sauces and ingredients to choose from. It’s not a true local experience but you can expect good consistent quality with Nak-La Moo Krata.

Factory Mu Kratha

Factory Mu Kratha

This is only factory I have every been to but it’s the best factory in my heart

The atmosphere at Factory Mu Kratha is well… like a factory, a large open warehouse full of tables and seats for all your Moo Krata needs. There are also plenty of fans so the restaurant is well ventilated and not hot. Factory Mu Kratha is mostly frequented by locals but for only 259 THB (+ 99 THB for grill), you can see why this Moo Krata buffet is so beloved by the locals.

The environment is very fun as well because in the front there is a stage where you can watch some live music and performances. Factory Music Kratha is a great place a chill Moo Krata dinner. Plus included in the buffet is also ice cream!

Some advice though, the seafood here is very popular so if you want some you’ll need to get them real fast before they are all out. For a more down to Earth and local vibe, I highly recommend Factory Mu Kratha.

Heng Heng Korat BBQ Buffet

Heng Heng Korat BBQ Buffet

When the locals are queueing up, you know the food is going to be special

The lines at Heng Heng Korat BBQ Buffet can be a bit long as the place is always packed with locals and for good reason. Heng Heng serves Moo Krata in a different style, while most places do the usual meat and veggie platter, the proteins here are served in a bowl of liquid broth, infusing the meats with even more flavor.

The sauce is also another highlight, the dipping sauces at Heng Heng are spicy, tangy, and additive, no doubt from the added MSG. There are also some side dishes for you to snack on while you wait for your foods to be cooked.

Heng Heng Korat BBQ Buffet is a very popular establishment, although be prepared to wait in line because the restaurant is quite small.

Taweechok Mookata Bantadthong

Taweechok Mookata Bantadthong

Taweechok is probably the cleanest Moo Krata place I’ve ever been to

Taweechok Mookata is your more upscale and casual Moo Krata place, very clean and the atmosphere is lively and inviting with an exceptional staff. An upgrade in atmosphere also needs to come with an upgrade in food quality and that is no exception.

The meats are tender and flavorful and the seafood is delicious as well. The portion sizes are also very reasonable for the price. Yes it’s not a buffet but you’ll still be full without having to worry much about your wallet.

The sauces are also free refills. If you want a more clean and sort of “modern” atmosphere then Taweechok Mookata is the restaurant for you.

Tui Mu Kratha

Tui Mu Kratha

Now say ahhhhh

Tui Mu Kratha is another a la carte place but that’s not to say it is expensive, no the prices here are very affordable and the atmosphere is very local with open air seating. Despite the low prices, the ingredients here are very high quality with excellent variety. Not to mention the dipping sauces are very good here, spicy and sour, just how Moo Krata sauces should be.

A medium order here is about 300 THB and would be enough for 2 people, plus your order includes a free bottle of Pepsi (sorry Coke fans).

Khun Ple Mookata

Khun Ple Mookata

Only a handful of seats, so be sure to arrive early to avoid the queues

A common feature you’ll find at the Moo Krata places on this list is that most of them have very long queues, and Khun Ple Mookata is no exception. Long queues means good food and Khun Ple Mookata is definitely up there in many of the local’s favorite lists.

The ingredients and proteins are high quality and the taste is superb, the prices are not that expensive either. You also get a choice of different soups here, most places offer only a basic vegetable stock but at Khun Ple Mookata you can choose a dark and sweet sukiyaki soup.

Just be prepared to wait in line, or come early to avoid waiting.
