10 Best Bangkok Night Markets for Thai Street Food Lovers

Bangkok is a city known for many things, and Night Markets are one of them. Night Markets in Bangkok are legendary especially for foodies and Thai street food lovers like you and I.

I’ve explored and ate through plenty of Bangkok night markets and I wanted to share with you 10 of my personal favorites. From modern, trendy, and chic markets offering innovative twists on traditional Thai street food dishes, to historical roads brimming with Chinese influences and heritage.

Note that Bangkok has way more than 10, I just picked these ones based on my opinion that these are the best for new or seasoned travelers to Bangkok.

Bangkok Night Market Culture

In Thailand, street food and night markets go hand in hand. You can expect to find typical dishes like grilled pork skewers or the classic Pad Krapow but more often than not, especially in Bangkok, the night markets here are an outlet for vendors to create new deliciousness.

A lot of these markets also have spaces where you can sit down and enjoy your food, plus some of them even have stalls selling alcohol and cocktails if you want to relax the night away.

Weekend Night Markets are even a bigger affair, popular markets like Chatuchak will often host larger numbers of stalls and vendors during the weekends.

Many temples throughout Thailand also have Temple fairs such as the Phra Pathom Chedi Annual Festival, and the Wat Saket Songkran Festival which celebrates both the traditions of the temples as well as hosting big open air markets and often carnival rides and games for locals to entertain and enjoy themselves,

10. Jodd Fairs DanNeramit Night Market

The most recent and famous of all the night markets in Bangkok! Jodd Fairs, recently opened a new branch at DanNeramit, a former theme park. While the original location at Rama 9 is still open, Jodd Fairs DanNeramit will be taking its place as the go-to night market for food and booze.

The new night market is located on Phahonyothin Road and is a short distance away from Ha Yaek Lad Phrao BTS Station, it’s about a 10 minute walk from the BTS.

The new Jodd Fairs DanNeramit is even bigger and better than the original, with over 1000 food, clothing, and souvenir stalls! You can expect even more variety in what you can find, from stylish clothes and accessories, vintage items, craft beers, souvenirs, innovative and traditional Thai street food, Japanese street food, churros, Taiwanese boba- you name it!

Although the market opens at 4PM, I’d say the actual opening time is around 6PM when all the stalls are finishing their setup and more people are starting to come in.

If you are a foodie like me, Jodd Fairs DanNeramit is the perfect night market for you. Although I did mention that this market has a bunch of stalls, the main focus is the street food.

Vendors from all over Thailand come here to introduce new, crazy, and innovative Thai street food dishes like:

Leng Saap - Tender pork spine, stewed in a spicy and sour broth, comes in XXXXL size :)
Cannabis infused foods - Owing to the recent popularity of legalized cannabis in the country
Soy Sauce Fermented Fresh Seafoods - From salmon, to shrimp, to crab innards

And various other small eats like grilled meat skewers, burgers, pizza, and so so much more.

After you bought all of your food, you can enjoy a picnic in the large grass field below the remanents of the former theme park’s DanNeramit Castle.

Jodd Fairs DanNeramit (and the original Rama 9 location) is my absolute favorite Bangkok night market. Just because I love food :P

9. Asiatique the Riverfront

Asiatique the Riverfront is a night bazaar/mall that sits on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. This mall is very special in the sense that the atmosphere it provides is so romantic and picture-esque.

Situated a mere 10-minute boat ride away from the Saphan Taksin BTS station, this former bustling international trading port has undergone a magnificent transformation. Now, it boasts a massive replica warehouse complex that houses over 1,500 boutique stores and 40 restaurants.

I’ve only been to Asiatique a few times, but each of those times there was also something new to discover, I will say that the focus here is less on “traditional Thai street food” and more about sit down casual restaurants, nonetheless, plenty of delicious dishes to discover here.

Aside from eating, there are 2 main things that I recommend you do at Asiatique.

Firstly, you’ll surely notice one of Asiatiques signature landmarks, the Ferris wheel. This is perhaps the only large one in the entire city, so be sure to ride on it as it offers a gorgeous view of the Bangkok city skyline.

The other activity is a real fun one, having dinner and cruising along the Chao Phraya River via the Chao Phraya Princess. The dinner is an international buffet with juicy steaks and fresh seafood, plus you’ll also have live music on board!

8. Chang Chui Plane Night Market

Chang Chui Bangkok Plane Night Market elevates the experience of Bangkok's night markets to extraordinary heights (pun intended). That’s because this unique Bangkok night market central decoration is an old and abandoned commercial airliner!

The Chang Chui Plane Night Market offers an enticing combination of shopping and eating opportunities, infused with a modern, urban atmosphere and an element of whimsical artistry.

The decorations in Chang Chui night market are all pieces of art in their own way, created from recycled materials and scrap metals, the whole mantra of this decor is that “nothing is wasted”. With this artistic nature in mind, Chang Chui market appeals more to the artsy and younger crowd.

In addition to the sculptures are also plenty of paintings and graffiti, making Chang Chui market a perfect place to update your socials and aesthetic Instagram feeds :)

The Lockheed L-1011 Tristar has been converted into a full on luxury restaurant, No Ah Bangkok, with menus ranging from 1500 THB for 5 courses or 2500 THB for 8 courses. So if you go to Chang Chui definitely dine at this restaurant.

7. Rot Fai Market Srinakarin

Rod Fai Market Srinakarin, also known as the Train market, is located in the eastern suburbs of Bangkok and is a sprawling open-air bazaar with its most notable feature being the vibrant colors of each stall’s tents.

There is seriously so much to explore at this market and with the amount of vendors and alleys, you’ll no doubt get lost…

If you’re a foodie, you’ll love this market. Although the street food they sell here aren’t as unique as Jodd Fairs, you’ll still discover a lot of traditional Thai snacks, desserts, and foods that you might’ve never heard of before. My favorite Thai dessert that you can find here is called Khanom Krok, a coconut cream based griddle cake.

If you are more of a shopaholic, Rod Fai Market has you covered, you can find almost everything here like a pristine 1950s Cadillac, vintage leather jackets, French chandeliers, and 1960s action figures from Japan.

6. The One Ratchada Night Market

The One Ratchada is a recently renovated night market (renovated in 2023), originally the market was known as Rod Fai Market Ratchada (yes, related to the one above) and was closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Luckily, post pandemic, new management came in and spruced things up a bit to what it is today.

Located next to “The Street Ratchada” shopping mall, this market is a combination of both modern and traditional influences.

The One Ratchada is best known for their food, like fresh grilled seafood platters and grilled meats, and so much more. Actually kind of similar to Jodd Fairs in its street food offerings.

Although, you’ll find more sit down restaurants and dessert cafes, with a number of stores offering things like Korean shaved ice, or Bingsu, to spicy Mala hot pot.

I like the One Ratchada because it feels more clean and orderly compared to the other markets. Less chaotic and just overall more chill to explore.

5. Chatuchak Weekend Night Market

Chatuchak Weekend Market is probably one of the most well known markets in all of Bangkok. While more about shopping than eating, you’ll still come across plentiful opportunities to sample delicious Thai street food while you’re here.

Lovingly referred to us locals as JJ Market, Chatuchak has evolved from a hidden gem for wholesalers and traders to an iconic destination that is a must visit for all you fellow tourists visiting Bangkok.

Spanning over 14 hectares, Chatuchak is home to an astonishing number of market stalls, exceeding about 8,000 in total. Much like the other markets on this list, you can find almost everything here from affordable yet fashionable clothing, to gadgets and phone cases.

I would urge you to be prepared though, during a typical weekend, the market attracts over 200,000 visitors, so exploring the market can be quite cramp and sweaty.

Also, I need to mention, that you should beware of scams here, the vendors here can take advantage of foreigners and charge stupidly high prices. So a little bartering and awareness can go a long way.

Nonetheless, if you have the opportunity to spend a weekend in Bangkok, make sure to dedicate a day solely to adventuring and shopping through Chatuchak weekend market.

4. Pratunam Night Market

Coming on form Chatuchak, another famous Bangkok Night Market is the Pratunam Night Market which offers a similar shopping experience to the aforementioned Chatuchak with its large number of vendors selling clothes and street food.

Pratunam actually has a daytime market as well that opens at around 5AM, which then slowly transforming into the nighttime market.

The night portion of Pratunam focuses more on retail offerings, particularly clothing, alongside a diverse range of products such as shoes, hats, watches, jewelry, scarves, underwear, cosmetics, false eyelashes, and fashionable bags, among others.

That’s not to say that street food is off the table, oh no, street food vendors will still open their stalls during the night offering classic dishes like grilled meat skewers, and even fresh fruit at this time of day.

Though certainly not comparable to places like Jodd Fairs in terms of innovative Thai street foods, the food at Pratunam can still satisfy your foodie cravings, especially if you want to do some shopping while eating.

Prices at the Pratunam Night Market are generally cheaper compared to other Bangkok night markets or popular shopping venues like MBK Center and Platinum Fashion Mall, so if you are looking for a new dress, make sure to bring your wallet :)

3. Yaowarat Road Chinatown

Yaowarat Road, Bangkok’s Chinatown. Oh man, ok aside from Jodd Fairs, Chinatown is my favorite place to find the best street food that Bangkok has to offer.

As the name suggests, Chinatown is less of a market and more like a whole road complete will dozens of small alleyways filled to the brim with the most delicious Thai-Chinese food and street foods that you can ever imagine.

When it comes to vibrant and bustling districts in Bangkok, you cannot overlook the captivating allure of Chinatown, this area is a literal melting pot of cultures, flavors, and hundreds of years of traditions.

If you don’t want to read that article then no problem here are some quick recommendations on what to eat at Bangkok Chinatown:

Khao Gaeng Jek Pui - The musical chairs of Thai rice and curry. Delicious home made curries with served over a bed of rice, no tables only chairs, hence the affectionate name
Yaowarat Toasted Buns - Popular dessert/snack soft and fluffy toasted buns filled with your choice of custards and sauces (I recommend chocolate, and sweet chili jam)
Fish Maw Soup - A thick and soothing soup with chunks of fish maw and crab
Kway Chap Rolled Noodles - Sheets of rices noodles rolled up and served with a peppery and porky broth along with toppings like crispy pork belly, and pork offals

2. Indy Night Market

Indy Night Market is a relatively new night market just across the Chao Phraya river in the Thonburi district of Bangkok.

This night market contains about 500 stalls selling all manner of things like clothing, food, and arts and crafts much like your typical Bangkok night market.

There aren’t a lot of tourists or foreigners at at Indy Night Market, in fact, you won’t even see many city folks here as it’s pretty far from the city center (eg. Sukhumvit area), this market is more catered to the locals who live in the Thonburi district.

Despite the low profile nature, I Indy Night Market a hidden gem full of amazing eats for foodies to discover. From fried chicken, Thai Khanom Bueang (sweet crepes), Angry Bird themed buns, and stir fried squid eggs.

If you are planning to go to Indy Night Market, I recommend you book a Grab transport, assuming you are traveling from the Bangkok city center, the price will be around 200 THB. Travelling here by BTS will be difficult as there are no stations nearby. If you intend to travel a lot to hard to reach places, renting a car will be a better option.

1. Khao San Road

And of course, how can we forget the most infamous night market in Bangkok, Khao San Road.

Backpacker central, Khao San Road certainly lives up to its reputation as being the center for all the energetic nomadic travelers amongst us.

While I personally find Khao San Road very sketchy and quite frankly not safe for novice travelers, I can’t deny that this is road is full of energy and chaos perfect for a night of partying and drinking.

Stretching across a 1 km-long road, Khao San Road and its neighboring streets are brimming with budget guesthouses and hotels, internet cafes, bars, massage parlors, legal cannabis vendors, and more. And yes, prostitutes as well (but don’t participate in that, please)…

You’ll find some of Bangkok’s best hostels here such as the very well known Mad Monkey Hostel as well as a lot of great restaurants in the area, my personal favorite Italian restaurant, Ranee’s is located about a 5 minute walk from Khao San Road.

If you are up for a night of partying and socializing that you will treasure for the rest of your life, Khao San Road is the night market for you. Just make your you stay safe and take care of yourself.
