Wild Beef Butcher Shop - Premium yet Budget Friendly Steaks in Bangkok!

Now who could resist a nice juicy steak like that?

It was Valentines day, and my girlfriend and I were eager to try out Wild Beef Butcher Shop, a small cozy steakhouse hidden away in an inconspicuous alley in Bangkok, that supposedly has some of the best steak in the city for an affordable price.

I was quite skeptical of course, we found Wild Beef through various foodie influencers on TikTok, and we al know that you can’t always trust TikTok food influencers…. But we were optimistic, because at the time, we were really craving something meaty and juicy. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised with Wild Beef and their affordable premium steaks.

Camping with Premium Beef

Wild Beef Butcher Shop

Wild Beef, a small restaurant, but a cozy one

Wild Beef Butcher Shop started off as a passion for camping and it’s very evident in Wild Beef’s concept and decor.

Starting off with the steaks themselves, the steaks are cooked with simple ingredients and seasonings as to evoke the same sense of cooking that you’ll get when you go out camping with you friends.

Wild Beef is also a very small restaurant creating an even greater atmosphere of community and coziness similar to that feeling or roasting marshmallows around a campfire with your friends.

Wild Beef Butcher Shop

Would anyone like red wine with a side of butane?

You’ll definitely notice the passion for camping throughout Wild Beef’s decorations. As soon as you enter the Butcher Shop you’ll see all the hanging vegetation, the various camping equipment scattered throughout, and especially the painted green walls. There’s a lot of green in this little Butcher Shop, giving the overall vibe a very cozy camp-y feel.

If you are looking for another popular steakhouse in Bangkok, and also something that is Halal-friendly, then I recommend Nuatair, a steakhouse with the best Halal beef in Thailand.

Wild Beef Menu

Wild Beef Menu

Only a handful of dishes but all concise and easy to read

Wild Beef’s Menu is quite small, yet concise. The dishes aren’t like your typical western style steakhouses, here they are a bit more creative and perhaps Japanese and Thai inspired.

The two main mains at Wild Beef are rice and noodles, some of the dishes available are:

  • Beef Pad Krapow with a fried egg

  • Fried Rice with Steak

  • Japanese style Picanha steak don

  • Thai stir fried rice noodles with steak

Aside from rice and noodles, you can also order things like salads, mashed potatoes, grilled beef tongue, and of course just a regular steak.

Daily Selection of Premium Steaks

In regards to the premium steaks you can get from the butcher shop there are high quality cuts of beef like Thai-Wagyu, Thai-French, and Premium Charolais beef, including Argentina Angus.

Needless to say there are many options to choose from.

Wild Beef Pricing

As for the pricing, I’d say that Wild Beef is very affordable for steaks. For the selection of premium steaks, the pricing will vary based on what cut and how much you want. Typically expect to spend around 400 THB for a steak.

For the other dishes everything is below 300 THB which is very very affordable for a high quality piece of beef.

The portions are a bit too small in my opinion, we ordered multiple dishes so we ate quite a bit, but I’d imagine if you ordered just 1 or 2 dishes per person, you won’t be full.

Creamy Pasta with Picanha Steak

Wild Beef Pasta with Picanha Steak

That’s the most beautiful plate of Pasta I have ever seen

Our first dish that came out was this Creamy Pasta with Picanha Steak. First off, the presentation is beautiful, especially that bright orange egg yolk in the center covered with shredded parmesan.

The pasta noodles were flat Tagliatelle noodles which are cooked well, and the sauce, honestly I’m not sure what the sauce is, I’m hesitant to say it’s Carbonara, but it doesn’t really taste like Carbonara, perhaps it’s just a generic cream sauce.

The taste is alright, it’s not “Wowing” but it’s good, the sauce is a bit bland in my opinion, also a bit too watery, breaking the egg yolk adds some richness that definitely helps to thicken the sauce.

The Picanha steak was absolutely delicious though, very flavorful with a great meaty flavor and aroma. I’ll talk more about the Picanha steak below.

Wild Beef 200g Picanha Steak

Wild Beef 200g Picanha Steak

My favorite part of this steak is definitely the fried garlic, I just really like garlic

Ok guys, this is the main highlight of our Valentines Day meal! the juicy 200g Picanha steak! For a steakhouse it was kinda weird that they didn’t ask us how we liked our steak to be cooked, but that was fine as the steak came out perfectly medium rare.

Wild Beef cooks their steak very well, with garlic, butter, black pepper, and of course thyme, all complete with a nice charred sear on the crust. This might sound obvious to you, of course that’s how you cook a steak, but in Thailand we don’t use these herbs, usually we just sear the steak in the pan with oil and that’s it. No fancy herbs like the Western world.

Anyways, the Picanha steak was meaty, juicy, and very flavorful. There is a very strong meaty flavor and the pieces with the fat caps are simply divine. I especially love eating the steak with the fried garlic.

Plus this steak was only 320 THB! At any other steak house this would be 600 THB minimum.

Wild Beef Picanha Steak Don

Wild Beef Picanha Steak Don

Some might say that this steak is raw, those people don’t know good steak :)

Now something that I didn’t enjoy as much is Wild Beef Picanha Steak Don. To be honest, it’s not Wild Beef’s fault that I didn’t like it, it’s just that these steak dons are trending in Thailand and I really don’t think a Japanese style rice bowl goes well with steak, at least the current way it is executed.

Wild Beef’s Picanha steak don includes steak (of course), fired garlic chips, a nice bright orange egg yolk, all topped over Thai jasmine rice.

The Picanha steak was cooked beautifully of course, no problem there. The rich egg yolk and the garlic were also good, the only problem I have is that the rice and steak doesn’t match.

To have a rice bowl you’ll need to have something that goes well with the rice, either something that is very saucy or the rice itself needs to have good texture and a flavor to match the topping.

The Picanha steak wasn’t juicy or flavorful enough to coat the rice in meat juices, the egg helped a bit but not too much, and the dry jasmine rice doesn’t pair well with the meat. Perhaps if they changed the rice to be a Japanese style sushi rice, or add some light butter sauce to the meat so that the flavors can soak into the rice.

Right now, Wild Beef Picanha steak don just tastes like eating a piece of unseasoned steak and then chasing that up with a dry flavorless spoonful of rice.

Girlled Beef Tongue

grilled ox tongue

I guarantee you, you’ll fall in love with beef/ox tongue as soon as you get a taste

Lastly we ordered the grilled beef tongue, which is one of my girlfriend’s and I’s favorite things to eat.

If you’ve never had Beef or Ox tongue before, I encourage you to try it, it might sound disgusting but it’s actually a very tasty and underrated cut of meat.

The grilled Beef Tongue is served with a light soy sauce and a wedge of lime. The taste of Beef Tongue is hard to describe but the texture is tender yet bouncy, not mushy or chewy at all, the seared crust also gives the tongue a nice crunchy and smokey contrast.

This is a good little side dish to have along with your main dish.

Conclusion

Wild beef Bangkok

What’s better than steak? Steak with good company :)

Pros

  • The pricing for the steaks are very affordable, great pricing

  • The steaks are very high quality cuts of meat with a lot of options to choose from

  • Wild Beef knows how to cook and season their steaks to a beautiful medium rare

Cons

  • The other elements of the dish like the rice and pasta noodles were just “okay”

  • Portions are a bit small, didn’t feel full after the meal

Overall I recommend you check out Wild Beef Butcher Shop, I know there were a lot of negatives and average things that I said but I was actually pleasantly surprised with Wild Beef. Mainly because the quality you are getting compared to the price is very good.

Though some dishes are just average, the steak part of all the dishes were done beautifully. If Wild Beef improves their execution of the carbs then I’d say they’ll have something special on their hands.
